Sarkeesian is a graduate in political and social thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements from a very early time. In 2009, when she was continuing to study at the university level, she created the Feminist Frequency site. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s who wanted to create a series of web videos which would explore how gender is represented in games. However, she became the victim of online harassment. The attack did not stop her, rather it strengthened her resolve as an activist for women in media. As a result of the many accomplishments she's made to feminism, she is the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media critic. She was also the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organisation that studies pop culture gender representations.
